What does GeoLoggy do?
GeoLoggy is a professional field documentation app for iPhone. It lets you capture photos with GPS coordinates, bearing, altitude and timestamp automatically embedded, organise them in a dedicated library, and generate polished PDF reports — all directly from your phone without any desktop software.
Do I need to create an account?
No. GeoLoggy requires no account, no sign-up and no login. The app works fully offline and everything is stored on your device.
What iPhone and iOS version do I need?
GeoLoggy requires iOS 16 or later. It is compatible with all iPhone models running iOS 16+. It is optimised for iPhone — iPad support is coming in a future update.
What permissions does GeoLoggy need and why?
- Camera — to capture site photos within the app
- Location (When In Use) — to embed GPS coordinates, bearing and altitude into photos at the moment of capture
- Photo Library — to save captured photos to the GeoLoggy album and to import existing photos from your camera roll
All permissions can be managed at any time via iOS Settings → GeoLoggy.
Why is my GPS accuracy low or showing a large margin?
GPS accuracy depends on your environment. Accuracy is typically best outdoors with a clear view of the sky. It can be reduced in:
- Indoor environments
- Dense urban areas with tall buildings
- Locations with limited satellite visibility (tunnels, underground, heavy tree cover)
The app displays the current accuracy in real time. Try moving to an open area and waiting a few seconds for the GPS to settle before capturing an important photo.
What does the bearing reading mean?
Bearing is the compass direction the camera is pointing at the moment you take the photo, measured in degrees (0–360°) with compass direction (N, NE, E, etc.). It is derived from your iPhone's magnetometer (digital compass). This is useful for field reporting as it indicates which direction a finding was photographed from.
Can I import photos I already took with my regular camera app?
Yes. Tap the import button (↓) in the GeoLoggy Library to import photos from your iPhone camera roll into your GeoLoggy library. Note that photos taken outside GeoLoggy may not have bearing or altitude data embedded — only GPS coordinates recorded by your camera app will be available.
Where are my photos saved?
Photos captured in GeoLoggy are saved to a dedicated "GeoLoggy" album in your iPhone's Photos app. This keeps your site photos organised and separate from your personal camera roll. You can view this album directly in the iOS Photos app.
How do I generate a PDF report?
Tap Reports on the home screen, then tap the + button to start a new report. Follow the steps:
- Enter your report title, subtitle, organisation and author
- Select photos from your GeoLoggy library
- Reorder photos if needed (Premium)
- Add captions, tags and markups to each photo
- Tap Generate PDF
Your PDF will be saved and ready to share immediately.
How many photos can I include in a report?
The free version of GeoLoggy supports up to 20 photos per report. GeoLoggy Premium (coming soon) will increase this to 40 photos per report.
Where are my reports saved?
Generated PDF reports are saved to GeoLoggy's local storage on your device. You can view, share and manage them from the Reports screen. They are not uploaded to any cloud service automatically.
Important: If you delete the GeoLoggy app, all reports saved within it will be permanently deleted. We recommend sharing important reports to a cloud service (iCloud Drive, Google Drive, email, etc.) for safekeeping.
Can I edit a report after generating it?
Report editing is not available in the current version. To make changes, start a new report with the updated information. The ability to edit and regenerate reports is planned for a future update.
How do I share a report?
Open the report from the Reports screen and tap the share icon. This opens the standard iOS share sheet, allowing you to send the PDF via email, AirDrop, Messages, save it to Files, upload to cloud storage or any other app on your device.
What is the map overview page?
The map overview page is an optional page added to your PDF report that shows a satellite or standard map with numbered pins indicating where each photo was taken, along with bearing lines showing the direction the camera was pointing. This is a GeoLoggy Premium feature, coming soon.
What is GeoLoggy Premium?
GeoLoggy Premium is a subscription that unlocks advanced reporting features:
- Up to 40 photos per report (vs 20 free)
- Drag-and-drop photo reordering
- Colour-coded severity tags with findings summary page
- Map overview page with satellite view and photo callouts
- Custom company logo and branding on reports
Premium is launching with the next app update. Early users will receive a free trial period — stay tuned.
When is Premium launching?
GeoLoggy Premium is launching with the next app update. Download the free version now to be among the first to access Premium when it drops.
The app isn't accessing my camera or location — what do I do?
Go to iPhone Settings → GeoLoggy and check that Camera and Location permissions are enabled. Location should be set to "While Using the App" for GPS data to be captured.
My photos aren't appearing in the GeoLoggy library
Check that GeoLoggy has Photo Library access enabled in iPhone Settings → GeoLoggy → Photos. If access was denied when first requested, you'll need to enable it manually here. The app needs read and write access to save and view photos in the GeoLoggy album.
I deleted the app and lost my reports — can I recover them?
Unfortunately, reports stored within GeoLoggy's local storage are permanently deleted when the app is uninstalled. They cannot be recovered. This is why the app reminds you to back up important reports before deleting the app. We recommend always sharing completed reports to cloud storage or email as soon as they're generated.
The PDF generation is taking a long time
PDF generation time increases with the number of photos included and whether the map overview page is enabled (which requires rendering a live map snapshot). Reports with many high-resolution photos and a satellite map overview may take 15–30 seconds on older devices. This is normal behaviour.
